Ved Mehta

Ved Mehta is an internationally acclaimed writer, with over 25 published books, including autobiographical works, fiction and classic accounts of India. He was elected a Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature, in 2009. Ved Mehta exclusively shares his Oxford experiences for the Oxasians project.

 

Ved Mehta was born in 1934 in Lahore, British India, (now in Pakistan). He lost his sight at the age of four, following an attack of cerebrospinal meningitis. His father was a doctor, committed to providing the best educational opportunities for all his children, including Ved. With the help of a number of scholarships, Ved Mehta arrived as a student at Balliol College, in 1956. Ved Mehta is an internationally acclaimed writer, with over 25 published books, including autobiographical works, fiction and classic accounts of India. He was elected a Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature, in 2009.
